Lily gave us a scare the first weekend in June, running a really high fever. We started alternating medicine every few hours, and when her fever was still escalating very quickly, we started worrying. Once it hit 104*, we decided to go to Texas Children's Hospital in the Medical Center. We left the house at 10:30pm, and they immediately got us back to see a doctor. Lily not only had a high fever, but she also had a boil on her diaper line (private area) - so they were concerned that she might have a staph infection.
They admitted her to the hospital around 3:30am, and we spent Sunday-Wednesday in the hospital taking IV antibiotics every 12 hours. The big question was whether or not they should do surgery to lance/drain her boil. Surgery meant anesthesia, so much to my relief, they decided to send her home and hope that the boil went away on it's own. We were to take oral antibiotics for 12 days and follow-up with our pediatrician that Friday.
As instructed, we visited her Pediatrician a couple of days after being released, and he lanced/drained the boil in his office (Thank you, Dr. Barnhart!), which immediately gave Lily some relief. We saw him again the following Tuesday and all was well. We haven't had any problems since then. We were also happy to find out (after testing) that her boil tested negative for staph. All is well! For now.....
Below, are some pictures we took in the hospital. Clearly, these were taken after Lily started feeling better.
