I come from a family of deer hunters...so with deer season starting in November, I very seldom was able to celebrate ON my actual day with my family - so maybe that is why it seems that we celebrated for such a long time - I am sure my family felt guilty for always being away on my day! :-) My mom still talks about how all of the men in the family left AS SOON AS I WAS BORN to go hunting for a week! Just as a side note - my mom hunts too (and we were raised hunters), so I think she was more upset that they left her home with me, than the fact that they actually left me! Ha!
But....I digress. My birthday this year was very low key. I spent the day home with the kiddos, and when Harry got home, he presented me with my gift.
Here, the boys show their birthday card for me!
What's this? Jewelry?
Daddy was told to get me "just a little something so that the boys learn the act of giving to their mommy so that they will know that it is important to give to others"....(birthdays aren't just about them, and they will give their wives something some day...) And....he got ......pearls?
Oh...there's more! ...pearl/diamond earrings too? WOW!
Daddy is really teaching his boys to give good gifts! Ha! Here, the boys pose with mommy modeling the new jewelry!
Here are the beautiful pearls up close. Harry cracks me up. I said to him, "Honey! I told you just to get me a little something!!!! You got pearls?" He replied, "You wouldn't tell me what you wanted so you got pearls!" Well, I guess he taught me, didn't he? Ha! This not telling him what I want could really work in my favor! :-)
My birthday celebration actually started in mid-October, 'when I celebrated my birthday, along with my - mom, sister, best friend, and grandmother as well. We get together once a year, usually in the fall, to celebrate all of our birthdays. This year, it was pretty low key because I had just given birth to Lily 2 weeks prior. We met in Kingwood at Raffa's, and had a long lunch - eating, drinking, laughing, and just having a great time together!
Here, I pose with my friend, Jana. We met our Junior year in college over 16 years ago! We talk every day and try to see each other every 2 weeks or so, if even for a couple of hours over a quick lunch. It's difficult at times, but very therapeutic when we pull it off!
In early November, two of my friends from Southeast Texas came to see me. Well, they really came to see Lily, but I consider that a birthday gift as well! I haven't seen them in over 4 years....Well, we think about 4. To be honest, we can't remember the last time we saw each other, but we know it was after Benjamin was born!
In this picture, I pose with Kellie & Tracey (L-R). I met both of them almost 20 years ago when I was working and in college. We partied together.....A LOT! They have a few years on me - just a few (sorry girls) - so they taught me everything - well, almost everything - I know! I love them so much!!!!
Lastly, the picture below was taken this past Saturday evening when Harry took me out for my birthday to our favorite restaurant - Vic & Anthony's. We had such a fun time! After 3 mojitos, 1 glass of wine, and 1 Baileys on the rocks - I could hardly hold my head up! One might wonder if that was from only getting 3 hours of sleep the night prior....or the alcohol? Nonetheless, he was generous enough to take the baby that night too! Until next year.....I'll keep the celebration going!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
